You Set With My Sun
When I met you, I met myself,
Laughter and cuddles defined our dates,
And in you I found solace,
The only woman second to my mother,
On my knee by the beach you said yes to me,
That you and I make a complement of a kind,
And glamour followed you down the aisle,
It was a dream I fortunately starred in,
And was willing to make it an eternity.
We had our ups and downs, I assumed it a norm,
Our kid, took after you, smile and grace,
The will too, I admired her, and hoped the second would be my wingman,
Yet Fate stood in the way,
And took you in a flash in that bungee I was afraid of,
You swung to your death with a mocking laughter at my cringe,
Yet your broken bones couldn't prove me right,
Your lifeless body commissioned a lifeless existence for me,
Our kid gave me consolation with her tears when you were laid down,
It was a void I only likened to a Black hole,
Sucking life and all that meant heaven to me.
Half a decade later and still I remain grounded,
Your ring remains a treasured memory of my wife,
Lucy now walks herself from school,
And in her I see an image of you,
Small but big at heart,
I walk down the beach on alternate weekends,
Just like the old days with you,
Hearing your whispers in the escaping tides,
I see footsteps in the sand and wonder if they fit you.
She no longer asks about you,
But I still see you in her sketches,
Her essays too,
She misses a mother's love,
But I can't get her another mom,
Who else equals you?
If it wasn't for her probably I'd look for you,
Maybe I'd risk cross the line,
But still I'd miss you in Hades,
For you are my guardian angel,
And I know not where else other than heaven you reside.
My sun set when you left, and forgot to rise,
Nay, took a nap before it rose,
Because Lucy gives me hope of good again,
I promise to allow only a man worth to take her away from me,
From us.
Promise me, that when the sun rises again,
It won't flicker.
