Till Marriage Do Us Part
I stand at the altar,
Looking at my bride, in all her glamor,
I swear she is an angel in disguise,
And her wings are tucked deep inside my heart,
It is because of me she came to Earth,
And I can't wait to put the seal with a vow-
'Till death do us part.'
For the past two years she has painted my life,
Scrubbed all rust away and taken me to places high,
She has been the source of my joy,
And her smile has surpassed all.
We have held hands in strolls and hikes alike,
And her voice has sung me songs with a touch of perfection,
With her my trust, respect and time stays,
And the mutual affection thrives on our friendship.
Today we will say our vows before God and men,
I will be hers and she will be mine,
Till death do us part,
But,
I have my worries,
My love for her is intact of course,
But time, not distance draws hearts apart,
I don't know if it will dig a ridge between us,
Or if it will thicken the trust and thrust us through.
What happens when responsibilities tie a noose on our necks,
When the third child comes during an economic low
And education for the first two becomes a blow?
What happens when our weekdays become busy,
The noise, bosses and traffic jams make us jumpy?
What happens when she stays at home less on weekends,
And gives me a tired back on weeknights?
What happens when she dedicates time to her girlfriends,
And gives me the silent treatment when I stay out late?
What happens when I stay longer at work,
And candle-lit dinners turn into late night cold meals?
What happens when we get tired of holding hands,
And romantic mumbles we share now turn into interrogations?
What happens when the moon stops being a symbol of romance?
What happens when our loving room turns into just a living room?
She is not perfect, and neither am I,
But what we have is special,
Handmade by perfection and tightened by trust,
Yet I fear that with time,
The shiny glitter will be burried under rust,
And I'll remember this day, that vow,
And cling to the hope of a love instilled in us,
And stay with her,
Even when marriage does us part at heart.
