The River Flows On

Seasons
Come and go,
The river flows on,
Day,
Night,
The river flows on,
Kids,
Foes,
Friends,
Add up and go again,
Day frowns,
Night cuddles,
Fake smiles,
Relentless bargains,
Sweat,
Tears,
Elation,
Ecstacy,
Heart broken trust,
The river flows on.

Foreigners,
With cams on necks,
Marvel in eyes,
Awe in faces,
Promise to set tent,
Yet they die and leave,
The river flows on.

The low rise,
The great plunge,
The river flows,
Carries good and muck alike,
Natives leave,
For better cities,
The old come home,
For the cheaper rurals,
The river flows on.

Lives claimed,
Crops thrive,
Fish caught,
In plenty and scarce alike,
The river cares not,
The river flows on.

Vows made,
Before its mighty flow,
Vows broken,
Under shades of darkness,
Birds mate,
In trees it waters,
Hippos bathe,
Fish swim,
And swallow its waters,
The wind blows,
A turmoil caused,
Yet, as relentless,
The river flows on.

It skins soil from the land,
Carries to the lower lands,
Impregnated by rain,
Drained by pipes,
Scented with farm chems,
A sweet death bed,
For fish and man alike,
But the river cares not,
The river flows on,
The river cries not,
The river flows on,
The river regrets not,
The river flows on
