The Last Sonnet
The last Sonnet
Footsteps grow louder and closer
Machetes heard dragging on the floor
Beaten and worn out
We can't find our way out
Tied on a pole, fixed between walls;
Prisoners of war
I'm their commander
They look at me and wonder
At home we left families
With hope and promises to return;
A tear of surrender from a comrade's eye
The last string of hope breaks
Machetes rain, screams rise
We breathe our last, silence falls
