She remembers her Mama's words,
warnings of princesses falling for beasts,
but how could he be one?
When he was her definition of sweet?
Flashy ironed suits that looked imported,
sweet scented flowers every time they met,
He called her his beloved happiness,
And she fell, right into his nest.
And boy, he had a mansion of a net,
A hardworking lad who had travelled roads and seas,
and more comfort is all she could get,
frequent shoppings and treats worth spoiling a queen.
This was her definition of paradise,
and her children would know no pain of want,
Till like a gambler, he saw another side of the die,
and redefined her definition of love.
His trips became longer and his affection shorter,
His demands moved her from a queen to a pawn,
His once soft whispers of love became louder,
loud and laden with insults and regrets of love gone wrong.
That she was the fault of lost feelings,
and she was a lingering taste of his better days before her.
Now her love for him was her cage, and he held the key,
So she hid the painful slaps and scratches with love.
She could take it no more,
she was now more of an object and less of a lover to him.
This had been her dream of a happy forever more,
yet it was her damnation, just another painful life pit,
she knew less in men, and this was her best,
she was going home to her mother's loving arms.
She knew the deceit beneath the smile - a lure to a nest.
Hers was raped hope, and she wasn't ready to give it to another.
