Only If I Could Hold You A Little Longer

Only if I could hold you a little longer
As the stalk does till the fruit ripens
Then I suppose this bond would be stronger
Only if I could hold till your heart opens

Shattered glasses clenched in a fist
Was the price I paid for not letting go
Profusely my palm bled for it was bruised
What if I could hold you just a little more

Perhaps I'd mould the pieces so fine
To a state of the art piece of art
For healing, my palm I'd rub with wine
And examine how deep the glass cut

Only if I could hold you a little longer

The cuts would heal and the oozing would ease
But still the pleasantness of its finality
A reminder of my pain that will never cease
Scars an evidence of the reality

My poems are therapeutic
