My Wife Is A Cricket

Emma,
The one I vowed to love now and forever,
The same woman who warmed my heart and food alike,
The same woman I gave my all for
Just to earn her angelic smile.

Emma loves a police man,
She says he offers better protection
And his shiny black boots stamp with authority.
She says all I offer is words of assurance
While he is insurance itself.

I stand no chance I know,
But our two kids are reason enough for a commitment,
She says she has had enough,
Me too, for it is not her first.

First it was the cobbler;
That he knew how to mend things.
Next was the tout;
That he offered free rides
That made her scream with thrill at crazy bends
Now it is a policeman;
That he knows how to hit targets with his gun
Which is longer than a mere pistol.

She hops from choice to choice,
That I start to wonder whether I was one of them,
Yet every time she comes back in tears
And chirps her heartbreaks in my ear.
I have no reason to keep her
Neither to swat her away.
I married a cricket and I know.

A poet by passion.
