Child, Smile

Child smile wide,
Smear me with awe,
Stare at the rising sun,
Look!
It rose, just for you,
See,
For your gaze it has paused.
Before it shines the world with light
It begs for your approval with puppy eyes.

See,
Tears in its eyes
Reflected in the dew on blades that sway
In the morning chill.

Smile child smile,
I want to see your gum,
Pink and toothless,
Adorable purity packaged in lack,
I want to know why you smile,
I want to know where your worry is dumped,
I want to know why your body shakes with each chuckle,
I want to know.

Smile child smile,
Wish me good in life,
Print that smile in my mind where no one can erase,
Remind me of memories lost and moments forgotten,
Remind me of the days when I too was a blessing.
Smile, Child smile
joy
