Brought Apart
Scars heal but not this one,
Scathed at heart by the one I loved,
The one, the keeper of my trust.
She told me of her love for me and I believed
Who else could love me more,
Than her? My Mother?
She carried me along
Even after the customary time,
And taught me how to eat and skip,
Let me sleep by her side on city sidewalks
And lullabies wouldn't have been more soothing,
When she found greener pastures,
She felt obliged to tag me along,
But a dilemma between options and choices,
Either her future or her son,
She chose choices, her future
And the end of 'Mama' calls had just began.
At 12 she said I was already a man,
That for myself I would provide,
That all would be alright,
She said the streets would provide just enough,
That one day I would understand she did it for love.
Today I understand, but it wasn't love for me,
But by another love we were brought apart.
Scathed at heart by the one I loved,
The one, the keeper of my trust.
She told me of her love for me and I believed
Who else could love me more,
Than her? My Mother?
She carried me along
Even after the customary time,
And taught me how to eat and skip,
Let me sleep by her side on city sidewalks
And lullabies wouldn't have been more soothing,
When she found greener pastures,
She felt obliged to tag me along,
But a dilemma between options and choices,
Either her future or her son,
She chose choices, her future
And the end of 'Mama' calls had just began.
At 12 she said I was already a man,
That for myself I would provide,
That all would be alright,
She said the streets would provide just enough,
That one day I would understand she did it for love.
Today I understand, but it wasn't love for me,
But by another love we were brought apart.
