Behind That Smile
Behind her broad smile is fear,
Fear that her past life may be seen,
That life she lived regretting her being,
The kind of life which if the clock started ticking backwards,
It'd be good if it were a memory than returning to it.
It's the reason why she fearfully smiles,
Hoping that smiling will hide her past.
Behind that smile an untold story of rape is kept,
Locked in her heart and keys held loose by tears,
She fears to narrate to the world on what happened that evil night,
The night she turned twelve years old.
The night her father promised her a birthday gift,
A surprise of taking away her pride,
The only treasure she owned in her life.
It's behind that smile that tears of shame are flowing,
Those tears she cries every night for being branded a murderer.
She had killed one of her own yet nobody bothered to ask why,
How can she keep the pregnancy of rape when the society dictated otherwise?
How can she carry a baby within a baby?
How can she expose to the world that the child's father is the person they are biologically related?
Anyway, she affords to smile,
She believes it's only a smile that can make her dark disappointing days seem bright,
So she has learnt to do it perfectly.
Even though some days it's beyond her control,
She hopes that one day...
Just one day,
Her memories will be long forgotten,
And her life shall start afresh.
Fear that her past life may be seen,
That life she lived regretting her being,
The kind of life which if the clock started ticking backwards,
It'd be good if it were a memory than returning to it.
It's the reason why she fearfully smiles,
